Tamara Tsehai Tesfai (b. 2003 Arlington, VA) is an Egyptian-Eritrean photographer based between Dubai and Brooklyn. She recieved her B.F.A. in Photography & Imaging from NYU Tisch School of the Arts. Her work shows stories of cultural identity, intimacy, and fashion exploration. Tesfai’s work is heavily influenced by her upbringing in Dubai, expressed through visual portrayals of Middle-Eastern and Black life that questions the politics of representation, beauty, and where value is placed in photography.

“What compels me about photography is the intimacy of taking and having your portrait taken. As a photographer I’m seeing someone as they never have and never will see themselves, and I have the power to empower others and represent them in a way they might’ve never thought possible.”
